Avalon Airport is the second busiest of the four airports serving Melbourne in passenger traffic. It is located 15 km north-east of the Geelong CBD and 50 km south-west of the Melbourne CBD. The airport is operated by Avalon Airport Australia Pty Ltd. It was built in 1953 to cater for the production of military aircraft. The flights between Avalon Airport and Sydney were introduced in February 1995 by Hazelton Airlines. The airport is used by Jetstar Airways and Sharp Airlines. The Terminal can serve about six flights in an hour. Also, the airport is used as an aircraft maintenance facility. The famous biennial Australian International Airshow operates from Avalon Airport.
