Geography

Asia is the largest part of the world, which is located in the northern and eastern hemispheres. Together with Europe, it forms the continent named Eurasia. It is separated from North America by the Bering Strait. The border with Africa passes through the Suez Canal; therefore, the part of Egypt that is located on the Sinai Peninsula belongs to Asia. The conditional border with Europe runs along the Eastern Urals and the Caspian Sea.

Asia is washed by all the oceans of our planet: the Arctic, Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic ones. In its western part, the inland seas are located, including the Azov, Black, Marmara, Aegean, and Mediterranean. The largest lakes are the Caspian and Aral (which are commonly called seas), Balkhash, and Baikal. The largest rivers are the Yangtze, Yellow River, Mekong, Lena, Irtysh, Ob, and the Yenisei.

The highest point in Asia is Mount Everest (8848 m), the lowest one is the Dead Sea (405 m below sea level).

Almost ¾ area of ​​Asia is occupied by mountains and plateaus. At the same time, the eastern part of the continent is regarded as an area of ​​active volcanism. The northern part of Asia is frequently associated with the tundra, whereas the south and west are widely known due to the taiga and fertile chernozems, respectively. In turn, the main part of Central Asia is occupied by deserts. Nowadays, the largest of them is the Gobi, which is separated from South and Southeast Asia by the Himalayas.

The majority of this continent’s territory is located in the area of a continental climate. However, it varies: from subpolar and polar (in the far north), to very humid tropical (in the southeast) and extremely dry tropical (in the southwest).

There are 54 countries in Asia. The most dangerous countries in Asia

Afghanistan is a country where no one knows about security. Terrorist attacks and military conflicts occur regularly. Furthermore, the local population in each family has a weapon for self-defense. At the same time, it is dangerous for women to be on the street unaccompanied by a man. There is a great danger of the abduction of foreigners. In turn, there is a civil war in Syria. Civilians were repeatedly subjected to chemical attacks. Death and mourning have become integral parts of life in this country. Ancient and historical monuments are destroyed as well.

Today, Iraq and Iran are engaged in military conflicts. Acts of terrorism happen very often on this territory.

Yemen is affected by an internal war that has resulted in the death of thousands of people due to starvation. Therefore, the English newspaper Guardian called this country the worst place in the world for women. In Yemen, careless tourists often fall victim to abductions.

The Philippines is widely known as a supplier of organs to the black market. It is a common practice in the country to add drugs to a tourist’s coffee or another drink. As a result, the unfortunate ones lose consciousness, as well as money, valuables, and even some organs. This country is more prone to natural disasters than others in the world. At the same time, this country is often described as the place of armed clashes with rebels.

Pakistan is a country where terror, sectarian violence, and kidnapping take place throughout the territory. As a result, these difficulties lead to the death of thousands of civilians.

The poorest countries in Asia

Tajikistan is included in the list of the top ten poorest countries in the world. In fact, about 30% of the local population lives in poverty. Industrial production is not developed here, which is why agriculture prevails. The majority of residents take appropriate measures to find a job in other countries. Simultaneously, drug trafficking from another poorest country, Afghanistan, passes through Tajikistan. In turn, there is a tremendously high level of corruption and criminality. Nevertheless, admirers of ecological and mountain tourism are fond of visiting this country.

India is a mysterious, unusual country full of contrasts. Usually, the ancient culture, magnificent nature, and luxury of the palaces are adjacent to poverty. However, the country's poverty is not an obstacle for tourists. They are interested in India due to its huge number of attractions (there are 31 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India), magnificent resorts (Goa, Kerala), the beauty and diversity of nature, and the opportunity to improve their health with the help of Ayurveda (literally — “life science”).

Bangladesh is a densely populated country with a high level of poverty and cheap labor. It is here that many world sewing manufacturers are located. Nevertheless, people travel to Bangladesh in order to relax on the longest beach in the world (120 km) and, of course, visit the largest city in the country, which is called Barisal. Tourists tend to come here to hear the "guns of Barisal" — an unusual and unique natural phenomenon that is expressed through noisy sounds reminiscent of artillery fire.

Cambodia is a poor, developing country with undeveloped infrastructure. Simultaneously, it is an interesting country where tourists are perceived as dear guests. People from all over the world come here in order to visit the world's largest ancient temple Angkor Wat. Cambodia is a country of palaces, temples, pristine nature, and Southeast Asian traditions.

The poorest countries in Asia also include Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, North Korea, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan.

Population

Almost 60% of the world's population lives in Asia, which is 4.2 billion people. The southeastern part of the continent is the most populated, as nearly 90% of the total population lives there. Highlands and deserts are sparsely populated. The most densely populated countries in this part of the world are India and China. They account for 40% of the world's population. Another five countries that have more than 100 million inhabitants are Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Japan, and the Philippines.

Representatives of three races live in Asia, including the Mongoloid, Caucasoid, and Negroid ones. According to statistics, men make up 52% of the whole population, whereas women — 48%.

In this part of the world, Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and Buddhism originated. Nowadays, to a greater or lesser extent, they spread throughout the whole world.

Asia is the place where many religions of the world were born. As a result, it is the continent where a cult of spirituality is developed like nowhere else. Each country has attractions associated with this area of life, including temples, pagodas, and mosques. Here you can find all the simplest joys of life, such as a beach vacation on the shores of truly paradise islands; delicious food, generously seasoned with spices; picturesque corners of nature in forests, mountains, and plains.

Best time to visit Asia

In Asia, the climate is very diverse. Nevertheless, you always have the opportunity to choose a country to visit, where the weather will be fine. Most Asian countries have a humid climate, so local tourists can face showers even during the dry season. However, there is a positive point in this fact, as short-term rains bring coolness and relief in the heat. Winter is the most favorable period for visiting the resorts of Vietnam, India, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and Sri Lanka. During this period, the humidity level is low, and rains are unlikely to happen.

In spring, you can visit Japan and China where weather conditions are comfortable. Moreover, a visit to Indonesia, India, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, or Laos is expected to be pleasant as well. For Sri Lanka, spring is considered the end of the tourist season.

In South-East Asia, summer is a rainy season. However, this is the best time to visit Indonesia and, in particular, the island of Bali. Vacation in Vietnam, China, or Japan is also quite pleasant during this period. Malaysia is beautiful at any time of the year; summer is no exception.

Autumn provides an opportunity for trips to South Korea, Turkey, and the Hindustan Peninsula. In Malaysia, the rainy season begins during this period.
