The Vienna Opera appeared back in the XVII century. However, the plays had been performed in various theatres till in 1869 the building of the Vienna State Opera (Wiener Staatsoper) was not finished. It constructed at the order of Emperor Franz Josef. On the opening night, the opera “Don Giovanni” by Mozart was performed. The building of the Vienna State Opera was destroyed in 1945 during the bombing. Staatsoper had been restored only by 1955. It’s remarkable, that till 1918, this cultural attraction of Austria was called the Vienna Court Opera.
