Modern shopping centers are more than stores. To attract visitors and motivate them to spend more money, mall owners turn them into real oases of recreation and entertainment. Theme parks, cinemas, attractions, restaurants, art exhibitions, fashion shows, workshops — it can take hours or even days to explore all the offerings. It's no wonder that strolling through malls has become a favorite American pastime. For them, it's not just shopping, but also an opportunity to relax and have fun with family or friends.

For those who can not imagine their life without shopping, ready to spend hours shopping and looking for bargains, we have described the biggest malls in the United States. If you want to visit any of them, prepare not only your wallet but also comfortable shoes. Believe us, you will need them!

Mall of America, Bloomington, Minnesota

Mall of America takes honorable places in several ratings at once. It is not only the largest mall in the United States but also the biggest mall in North America and the eleventh largest in the world. It is located in the city of Bloomington, Minnesota. The majority ownership is held by the Triple Five Group, which in turn is managed by the Ghermezian family.

The biggest mall in America covers a record 5.6 million square feet with a parking lot for 12 thousand vehicles. It is so huge that it even has its own zip code — 55425. The four levels of the Mall of America feature more than 500 retail stores, nearly 50 restaurants, a movie theater, a huge food court, and a host of entertainment venues. It has 40 million visitors annually.

The largest mall in America had four anchor stores — Nordstrom, Macy's, Sears, and Bloomingdale's. But two of them (Sears and Bloomingdale's) have closed. They were replaced by new retailers — LL Bean, Barnes & Noble, DSW, and Marshalls. In late 2020, a 24,000-plus square foot M&M's store opened in the mall. It became famous for its Midwestern-inspired design and iconic Wall of Chocolate.
