EASA and ECDC recommend abolishing the mandatory mask regime at airports and planes in Europe from May 16. Their joint statement says that this relaxation of quarantine measures is due to recent developments in the Coronavirus situation. Among other things, the level of vaccination and collective immunity acquired naturally has been taken into account.
At the same time, airlines can set their rules on their flights. Thus, a mask mode on board will be encouraged if the plane is flying from or to a country where strict quarantine restrictions are still in effect.
The organizations recommend that at-risk passengers continue to wear masks. The rest of the public should observe social distancing measures wherever possible.
