There could be direct rail service between Salt Lake City and Las Vegas

Utah officials have applied for a grant to build a rail line connecting Salt Lake City to Las Vegas. The creation of a direct route between the two cities has been discussed since 2011. The new connection will be a step towards developing eco-friendly travel, as most travelers cover this route by plane.

The Utah Department of Transportation has already started cooperation with similar structures in Nevada and Idaho, as well as the national railroad passenger corporation Amtrak to quickly and efficiently create a new line between Salt Lake City and Las Vegas.

If the project receives a state grant, its construction could begin as early as March 2024. The best projections are that the first train on the new route would run in 2028.
