Hamburg is well-deserved called the heart of Northern Germany. It’s also one of the most densely populated cities in the country. Approximately 2 million people live here. Germany guards its attraction with solicitude for the upcoming generations and with delight demonstrate it to the guests of the country. Numerous and diverse tours around Hamburg will let you enjoy the views of this ancient city, introduce you to its lifestyle, citizens, and cultural values.

There are many memorable places in Hamburg which are priceless for Germany in general. Hamburg City Hall is one of them. It is depicted on the vast majority of postcards and photos of the tourists.

Rathaus - the architectural memorial of Hamburg

After visiting numerous palaces, temples, and parks, any tourist’ way lies to the center of the city where the City Hall is located. This building is a real architectural property thought it’s not that old as it may seem to be. There used to be another Townhall on the spot of the current City Hall. Unfortunately, it was burnt to ashes. The fire happened in 1842. The new building was erected in 1886-1887.

The new City Hall is built in the neo-renaissance style. Martin Haller became the main architect, while the project itself was chosen among 128 suggested variants. It’s a splendid building with an elegant tower 112 meters in height. The building consists of 647 rooms, while the tower of the City Hall is crowned with an enormous clock. There are niches between the windows where the sculptures of twelve German kings and emperors are located. Here you can see rulers starting from Charlemagne and to Franz II.

The iconic symbol of Hamburg

The City Hall is the meeting place of the supreme city authority - the Senate and city’s parliament. Several halls are being used for hosting various events and meetings. The visitors are allowed to attend this historic place in the first half of the day. Here you can dive into the history of the city, become its park, and enjoy the marvelous interiors.

Address: Rathausmarkt 1, 20095 Hamburg.
