History of the Park and Name Origin

A ceremonial opening of the park was in far 1808, however, it was laid much earlier – 100 years before! During all that period, the specialists and workers had been creating magnificent landscapes with multiple alleys on the huge park territory.

But why does the park have a name of Englischer Garten (English Garden)? The historical documents show that initially the park had a name of the Charles Theodore Park. For some time, it was named as it, but later it was renamed to Englischer Garten. The thing is that during the garden creation, the architectural style of an English landscape park was used, which aims to the maximum naturalness of composition.
