Medan is the fourth most populous city in Indonesia and the administrative center of Sumatra province. This formerly small village was developed after the Dutch came here. The colonial architecture reminds us of that period. Despite the abundance of attractions, the city has not become a tourist destination. Most often, it is used as a transit base. People go from here to other places for holidays. While staying here, you should definitely visit the Masjid Raya Al Mashun mosque, constructed in Moroccan style, the Istana Maimun sultans' palace, where members of the sultan's family still live, the Hindu Raksa Buana Great Temple. The local markets are the most picturesque locations in the capital. The central market opens at 4 AM. They start selling fresh fruits and vegetables from high mountain farms so early. Medan is famous for its local cuisine. There are entire quarters where you can buy food cooked right on the street.
