Kagoshima is located at the southwestern tip of the island of Kyushu near the active volcano Sakurajima, 1117m high. It has been nicknamed the "Naples of the Eastern world" for its hot subtropical climate and the nearby volcano, located on the coast of Kagoshima Bay. The volcano is a hotspot of Kagoshima. You can observe its vapor almost every day. There are a lot of hot springs on its foot. You should definitely visit Ibusuki hot spring resort, located not far from the city, to take a bath in + 50 °C sand on the beach. The heated by thermal waters sand helps to release toxins. Senganen Garden overlooking the volcano also worth visiting. You may go to Yakushima Island to see famous Japanese cedars and Mt. Miyanoura (1935).
