Christchurch
Christchurch is located on South Island in New Zealand. Christchurch is the administrative center of the Canterbury region. Australian whalers founded the first white settlement on the site of the future city in 1840. Eight years later, it was decided in England to establish an Anglican colony on the South Island. There were famous architectural sights and historical buildings in the city. For example, the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, which was completed in 1905, is the most beautiful Renaissance building in the country. However, many architectural monuments that were located in the central part of the city were severely damaged or even collapsed during the earthquakes of 2010 and 2011. Some of the structures were later demolished for security reasons.
