Cebu City
Cebu is the oldest city in the Philippines. It is located on the eastern shore of the island of the same name. It is believed that the city was founded in the place where the great traveler Magellan, who discovered the Philippines, first landed on the shore. It was from Cebu that the spread of Christianity and European civilization on the islands began. The city can be described as an open-air museum, as it includes a variety of attractions. For instance, the Magellan’s Cross is usually perceived as the main symbol of the city. Residents of the city claim that any disease can be cured by touching this element. Also, the tourists are often interested in the Minor Basilica of the Holy Child of Cebu and Fort San Pedro — the oldest and smallest one in the country. In addition to its main purpose, San Pedro used to serve the functions of prison, hospital, and school. In turn, nowadays, it serves the function of a museum. Independence Square and Casa Gorordo Museum are an integral part of the main city attractions as well.
