Arecibo is located in the north of Puerto Rico. The city is famous for its renowned observatory with one of the largest radio telescopes in the world, located 15 km away. From here, a signal was sent into space in 1974, the so-called Arecibo message. In 2017, Hurricane Maria severely damaged the radio telescope. Today, the city on the Atlantic coast is an excellent place for a fascinating holiday. The Arecibo Lighthouse, constructed in 1898, which has been fully restored and is open to the public, and the Historical Park are definitely worth visiting. On the adjacent territory, there are children and adult swimming pools, the only sea aquarium on the island, several reconstructions of objects from the history of Puerto Rico — Taino Village, and the Spanish conquest with three ships, an African hut, and a Pirate ship. There is also a water park in Arecibo.
