Stirling is one of the oldest cities and a former capital of the Kingdom of Scotland. It is located in the center of Scotland. It witnessed important battles during the Wars of Scottish Independence in the 13th - 14th centuries. The following historical and architectural monuments should be paid special attention — the Church of the Holy Rude, the castle on the rock, 67-meters-high National Wallace Monument, which commemorates a Scottish hero. James VI, the first KIng of Scotland and England, was crowned in the Church of the Holy Rude in the 16th century. All the other monarchs were crowned in Westminster Abbey. The Stirling castle was erected in the 12th century, and in the 16th century it was rebuilt and survived eight sieges. You can enjoy walking around the city.
